Lyoness Greenfinity Foundation, Calculator for locations (2012-2014)

The ecological footprint of all Lyoness company locations can be determined with this calculator, which is a web based tool. Extensive data is therefore being collected at all Lyoness subsidiaries on all continents. It offers the opportunity to compare the various locations with each other and to show potentials for ecological optimisation. Based on the determined data Lyoness’ annual total footprint will be calculated.

Lyoness Greenfinity Foundation, Calculator for events (2012-2014)

The ecological footprint of all events organised or sponsored by Lyoness including the Lyoness Open a golf tournament within the European Tour will be determined by a web based calculator for events.
Evaluation includes all areas which are relevant to events:

  • water consumption
  • energy consumption
  • mobility (arrival and departure of participants, excursions etc.)
  • accommodation for participants
  • catering
  • supporting programme

The determined ecological footprint helps in making decisions for ecologically optimising an event. Thereby it can be found out how the footprint changes when certain products are being replaced or spared.

The events’ determined ecological footprints will be integrated into Lyoness’ annual total footprint.

Further, participants of Lyoness events can also make a contribution to environmental protection. A tool determining the personal ecological footprint of arrival at and departure from an event is available on the Greenfinity Foundation’s website.

ANIMPOL (2009-2012)

The project aimed at the sustainable and value-added conversion of waste from slaughterhouses, rendering industry, and waste fractions of the biodiesel production. Slaughterhouse waste is converted towards fatty acid esters (FAMEs, biodiesel). Subsequently FAMEs consisting of saturated fatty acids that negatively influence the biodiesel properties as a fuel are biotechnologically converted towards high-value biopolymers (polyhydroxyalkanoates - PHAs). This brings together waste producers from animal processing industry with meat & bone meal producers, and with the bio-fuel industry, resulting in value creation for all players.

FC-HyGuide (2010-2011)

This project aimed to develop a Guidance Document for companies which are involved in Fuel Cell and Hydrogen production. The Guidance Document introduces Life Cycle Assessment practices according the ILCD Handbook to the public.

ELAS (2009-2011)

This project dealt with the ecological evaluation of settlements, regarding the whole life cycle of buildings and infrastructure as well as energy demand of inhabitants (including mobility). The project resulted in a web-based calculator to estimate the ecological as well as economic impact of settlements, taking their site specific characteristics into account.

INKOBA (2009-2011)

Optimal RES (renewable energy systems) for three concrete industrial parks in Upper Austria were the topic of this project. Process Network Synthesis (PNS) was used to investigate technology networks and energy cascades to calculate optimal revenue situations for these parks.

Resourcenplan Mühlviertel (2009-2011)

This project aimed the development and establishment of an climate and energy model region Mühlviertel. Through regional material flow analsyis and added value chains, a dataset was created for further development oft he climate and energy model region. One major aspect was the inclusion of local stakeholders to have a close regional contact and support of local players. Different scenarios have been developed with Process Network Synthesis (PNS) which have been evaluated with the SPI afterwards.

Syn-Energy (2009-2011)

This project investigated the utilization of intercrops for biogas production. It also developed an optimal technology system (using Process Network Synthesis) for a specific local setting with different raw material providers and various demands. SPI was used afterwards to evaluate the ecological performance of those technology networks.

Syn-Energy II (2011-2013)

Based on the previous project "Syn-Energy", the investigation of intercrops will be intensified. Test plantation results are the input for an ecological evaluation of planting intercrops in Austria. In contrast to "Syn-Energy", soil quality, nitrogen leaching and yields are the focus of Syn-Energy II.
